A little girl was killed Monday evening after she was struck by a truck in Kansas City, Kansas, near 4th and Quindaro.

Police say the girl and her mother darted into the street in front of the vehicle.  Both were hit and were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The child died at the hospital. KCK Police identified the girl as 2-year-old Melanie McDonald.

The driver stayed at the scene.  He was not speeding and did not appear to be under the influence, according to police.

This is the second child to die after being hit by a car and the third struck in the last 24 hours.

On Monday afternoon, an 18-month-old boy was struck at a home in Olathe when a family member was backing out of a driveway.  The child died from his injuries.

In Shawnee, a 12-year-old was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Tuesday morning near 55th and Rosehill.  That child was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
