Manhattan, KS -  If you ever hear a young person complaining about 'adulting', it may leave you scatching your head.

For millennials and member of Gen-Z, The slang term "adulting" mean to carry out any mundane, regular task... like cooking, changing a car tire, paying the bills or doing laundry.

Megan Katt is a health educator at Kansas State University, and says in the past few years she has heard a lot of students lament the woes of 'adulting', so KSU began offering Adulting 101 seminars.

"We constantly see, over and over, that 'adulting is hard', or 'I don't know how to adult'; or 'I don't want to adult any more,'" Katt said.

The bad news is for these young people who seem to have trouble... they're going to have to 'adult', whether they like it or not.

Katt said many college students have not been properly prepared for life on their own, and points out the lack of Home Ec classes in some high schools.

That, paired with worries about money or their personal lives, is proving detrimental to the mental health of young people, she says.

"This is a big contributor to the mental health epidemic we're seeing with young adults," Katt explained. "They're just not given the problem solving skills tools or the life skills tools to overcome these problems."

Students can complete one course, or multiple courses in the series, which focus on one specific, so-called 'adult' task... so they can walk away feeling a little less overwhelmed about being out of the nest.
