Delays and detours abound

Traffic is going to be a mess during rush hour for quite some time on Interstate 470 as MoDOT works on a major bridge rehabilitation project.

For the next year and a half, workers are repairing and replacing 15 bridges between Three Trails Crossing and I-70 - that's the entire stretch of I-470 between South Kansas City to Lee's Summit to Independence.

Currently, work is being done on bridges in the westbound lanes of I-470.

Work will halt over the coming winter and resume in the spring of 2018 on the eastbound highway bridges.

MoDOT project Engineer Jacob Wilson says drivers will need patience, as they hope to have the work completed by 2019.

According to MoDOT, some 60,000 - 80,000 vehicles use I-470 every day.
