A little boy remains in a hospital after a dog attack last week in Odessa.

Damian Sunderland, 11, was staying with relatives in Odessa when he was attacked by what his mother describes as a family pet that had no previous episodes of aggression toward the boy. Damian and his mother, DeAnn Tieman, recently moved to Missouri from Oklahoma after a house fire.

Tieman said in a news release that Damian has already been through surgery and a skin graft, and he had a lengthy surgery scheduled for Tuesday.

A plastic surgeon at the University of Kansas Health System said the boy has a long road to recovery.

The family news release did not reveal the breed of the dog.
