Kansas City Police detectives admit they are exhausted following another deadly weekend on the city's streets.

Three homicides were reported within a span of 12 hours Sunday. Someone reported a body on the highway around 3:45 a.m. on Interstate 435 and Eastwood Trafficway. The victim was later identified as Gabriel Edgar.

About an hour later, a man was shot and killed near 9th and Houston. Then, around 3 p.m. Sunday, a man was shot to death near 14th Street and White.

"I think this is homicide number, for the year, I think 84, 85, 86," said Capt. Lionel Colon, KCPD. "Unfortunately, I've lost count this week."

Official statistics from the Kansas City Police Department showed 82 homicides on Friday, August 17. The weekend total would put the figure at 86 homicides so far in 2018.

Police had not shared information about suspects or motives as of Monday morning.
