Lenexa-based HHI needs donations of time & money

Hurricane Irma is putting extra stress on weary disaster relief organizations all over the United States, including Kansas City.

Hurricane Harvey stretched thin the resources of Heart to Heart International.

"We know how to respond to hurricanes and we have been doing so in the Texas area," said HHI CEO Jim Mitchum. "In addition, we were having to create a new medical team to go out with our mobile medical unit somewhere near the panhandle of Florida."

The organization needs more health care professionals. They also need monetary gifts to restock supplies.

"We need licensed practitioners, doctors and nurses, willing to give a minimum of one week, and hopefully, some of them two weeks," Mitchum said.

Non-skilled volunteers are also needed to build hygiene kits at HHI's warehouse in Lenexa.
