Kansas City, MO - It's not just for school children and not just for Missouri residents (hint, hint Kansas).

The 2018 Back to School sales tax holiday starts at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 3 and runs through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 5.

Some counties and cities in Missouri are opting out of the sales tax holiday.  Find opt-out counties here, find opt-out cities here.

However, all major shopping zones in the Kansas City Metro (Missouri side) are good to go.  And many cities are waiving local sales tax as well.

The state sales tax exemption is limited to:

  • Clothing – any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
  • School supplies – not to exceed $50 per purchase
  • Computer software – taxable value of $350 or less
  • Personal computers – not to exceed $1,500
  • Computer peripheral devices – not to exceed $1,500
  • Graphing Calculators - not to exceed $150
